OTTAWA, Kan. – The NAIA held its annual National Awards Day on Sept. 15 The affiliation introduced over 11,000 (*19*) Scholar Athletes and over 2,000 NAIA Scholar Teams.
The Ottawa University Braves had 19 NAIA Scholar Teams with 23 of its 33 groups having over a three.0 GPA. OU has 4 of its groups that don’t compete within the NAIA.
Overall, the Brave athletic division has a GPA of three.007. Softball, lead via head trainer Jay Kahnt, led the athletic division with a three.6 GPA. “I am so proud of what our players were able to do in the classroom this past year,” stated Kahnt. “This is the highest team GPA in our program history. To be able to win a KCAC Championship and achieve that GPA is incredible. We always talk about being champions on the field and in the classroom and we definitely did that this past year. This shows the type of character that are players have and that we want in our program.”
OU’s 19 NAIA Scholar Teams are an development from the 2020-21 season which had 17 groups earn the consideration. “As an athletic department and institution, we are most proud of our teams and student-athletes who are able to find good balance in all aspects of being a successful collegiate student-athlete,” stated OU Director of Athletic Arabie Conner. “High praise for these student-athletes and the good leadership of our coaching staff and academic support systems that are here on campus. One thing we all hopefully learn somewhere along the way, is that you can’t compartmentalize work ethic and commitment. You’re either committed fully to what it takes to be a student-athlete, or you aren’t. Congratulations are definitely in order for all our Braves teams who worked hard to achieve this much deserved recognition.”
NAIA Scholar Team Award acknowledges excellence in the school room via NAIA groups. Team GPA necessities come with:
